Yes. The PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor credential is part of PECB’s ISO/IEC 42001 personnel certification scheme. PECB’s certification scheme covers professionals who audit artificial intelligence management systems against ISO/IEC 42001 requirements and recognized auditing practices. PECB also announced in August 2026 that its ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor personnel certification scheme is independently accredited by UKAS under ISO/IEC 17024:2012.

The main prerequisite for participating in the ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor training course is a fundamental understanding of ISO/IEC 42001 and AI principles and concepts.

The training is particularly relevant for professionals with an auditing background, AI management professionals, consultants, advisors, and professionals involved in AI implementation or AI system architecture.

The PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor exam assesses knowledge and skills across seven competency domains, covering AI management systems, ISO/IEC 42001 requirements, audit principles, audit preparation, conducting audits, closing audits, and managing an audit program.

The current PECB candidate handbook describes the Lead Auditor exam as an open-book examination, with permitted reference materials including the ISO/IEC 42001 standard, training materials, personal notes and a hard-copy dictionary. PECB also states that it is progressively transitioning toward open-book, scenario-based multiple-choice examinations. Candidates should check PECB’s current examination rules for the exam format applicable to their attempt.

For the ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor training course, the initial exam attempt is included, and PECB currently states that if a candidate fails the exam, they can retake it within 12 months of the initial attempt for free.

For your product page, I would phrase this as “Initial exam + free retake” rather than claiming a fixed number of total attempts, because the official wording specifies the free retake period rather than presenting it as an unlimited-attempt policy.

Yes. The training is designed around theoretical concepts, ISO/IEC 42001 requirements and practical audit examples. It also includes exercises and quizzes, including scenario-based activities designed to help participants prepare for the certification examination.

For ThinkRyt-specific support, however, I would not use PECB’s wording to promise unlimited support unless ThinkRyt actually provides that service.

You could write:

Yes. Training participants can ask questions and engage with the trainer during the training sessions. ThinkRyt support is also available for course-related assistance.

Only keep the second sentence if ThinkRyt actually provides that support.

PECB certifications are valid for three years. To maintain the certification, certified professionals must meet PECB’s applicable certification-maintenance requirements, including continuing professional development requirements and the applicable annual maintenance fee.

Accordion Content

Yes, but the Lead Auditor credential has its own certification requirements. Passing the Lead Auditor exam alone does not automatically grant the PECB Certified ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor credential.

For the ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor credential, PECB currently requires:

  • Five years of professional experience
  • Two years of experience in AI
  • 300 hours of audit activities
  • Successful completion of the PECB ISO/IEC 42001 Lead Auditor exam or an accepted equivalent
  • Signing the PECB Code of Ethics

PECB also has a formal process for upgrading credentials when the applicable requirements are fulfilled.
